Worth knowing.

A few details that can change how you plan the work.

An adviser register is a separate check.

Some client advisers need registration even when their employer does not need a FINMA license. The employer’s supervisory status and the clients served help determine the obligation.

FINMA · Client-adviser registration

Preparation has its own timetable.

Bank and securities-firm projects are presented to FINMA before the full application. This early exchange can reveal issues with the model, people or funding while there is still room to adjust the plan.

FINMA · Preliminary licensing inquiries

Capital is more than a filing cost.

A bank’s CHF 10 million minimum capital is only one financial requirement. The business also needs to demonstrate continuing capital adequacy, liquidity and risk controls; legal and application fees are separate budget items.

FINMA · Bank authorization
